BERN

Eventhough it’s the fourth biggest city in Switzerland, Bern is the capital of this country. It’s located in the middle of the country, and it’s equally distanced from Germany, France and Italy. As Zurich and Geneve, Bern is well known for its lifestyle quality. Old part of the city is listed as the UNESCO World Heritage.

The symbol of the city is river Ara, since Bern is located on the hill above this river. As the Switzerland’s capital, Bern is the city where more than 120 embassies are located.

Bern is also served by Bern Airport, located outside the city near the town of Belp. The regional airport, colloquially called Bern-Belp or Belpmoos, is connected to several European cities. Additionally Zurich Airport, Geneva Airport and EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg also serve as international gateways, all reachable within two hours by car or train from Bern.

There are a lot of people who were born and raised, or at least spent some time in Bern. Some of them are Vladimir Lenin and Albert Einstein who worked out his theory of relativity while living in Bern, employed as a patent examiner at the patent office.
